Well hello all! The fact that I have not written much is a huge indication that am completely swamped with student teaching. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love it. It challenges me to the core, it excites me, and makes me be creative. However it also exhausts me, stresses me and is a never ending stream of possible work that makes me lose sleep. It makes my organizer tendencies go a little haywire. In my two weeks of teaching I have been able to do different fun activities and I'm just starting on a few creative ventures with the class that have gone well so far. If I can catch up on my sleep, get way ahead in lesson plans, AND please the gods at the college of education... I'll be sitting pretty.
So here are a couple of my favorite moments in class so far:
#1 Last week I gave a test on which the following question was written, "What is a monsoon and how does it help farmers in India?"
---a student responded "A monsoon is a small animal that crawls around the city and warns people."
I was thoroughly confused at this answer, until I discovered that the English teacher was going through the story of Rikki Tikki Tavi! haha No wonder she had mongoose on the brain. Am I a bad person if I laughed my head off?
#2 Today I asked the students to write a letter home from their "Adventure on the Silk Road" in ancient China. They all had fun with it and I was pleased. A few kids read their letters. One of them wrote the following:
"I was traveling on the silk road with my two kids and all they did was complain 22/6." (at this point I stopped and said, don't you mean 24/7? She said well no, they are little and they don't know.) HAHAHA How stinkin cute is that?? Cracked me up! I definitely enjoy those fun moments.
I'm glad that I'm getting into this to be a part of the lives of these kids. That is the best part of my day.
